PIMA COTTON (พีม่าคอตต้อน)

Pima Cotton is one of the best cotton in the world. With its fiber characteristic of being extra long yarn, it can produce a fabric that is soft and luster with durability.

Here are some descriptions that I got from “www.supima.com” which is an official website for a trademarked American Pima Cotton:
“Pima cotton is a name for extra-long staple (ELS) cotton grown in the U.S., Australia, Peru and in very limited production in a few other locations around the world. The name (Pima) was given in honor of the Pima Indians who were helping to raise the ELS cotton on the USDA experimental farm in Sacaton, Arizona. Its fineness and longer staple length makes Pima a premium cotton fiber. It is used to spin finer count yarns, which can be knitted into softer, finer and more luxurious fabrics.

T-shirt in the Making

I never thought making a good t-shirt would be this difficult. And I realize that there are too many factors that you cannot control especially when you have small orders:

- Fabric choice (I need to give this a separate topic)
- Pattern making
- Production factory
- Garment wash factory
- Other things: labels, tags, re-packing

The part that I don’t quite understand and still a mystery to me is Pattern Making. It needs specific skills from a good pattern maker. I realized this after going back and forth with several choices of pattern maker people. The hardest thing is the neck line and the sleeves. I can’t really put in words what is the right fit. But you can “feel” it when you wear it. A great t-shirt is just fit and looks good on you. And that creates value to a basic t-shirt, SIMPLE & SPECIAL

ไม่เคยคิดเลยว่าการทำเสื้อยืดสวยๆซักตัวจะแสนยากเย็นขนาดนี้ มีหลายสิ่งหลายอย่างที่เหนือการควบคุมของเรา โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งช่วงเริ่มต้นเช่นนี้ที่ปริมาณการผลิตก็ต่ำเสียเหลือเกิน สิ่งต่างๆต่อไปนี้คือสิ่งที่ใช้เวลามากเหลือเกิน
- การเลือกหาผ้า (ต้องขอกล่าวถึงแยกเป็นอีกประเด็นหนึ่งเลยทีเดียว)
- คนทำแพทเทิร์น
- โรงงานผลิตเสื้อ
- โรงงานฟอก
- อื่นๆ เช่น ป้ายเสื้อ แพ็คเกจจิ้ง และการบรรจุ

ส่วนที่ยากเย็นที่สุดเห็นจะเป็นการทำแพทเทิร์นของเสื้อให้สวย ซึ่งต้องอาศัยผู้ที่มีความช่ำชองและชำนาญในการทำแพทเทิร์นเสื้อยืดโดยเฉพาะ ซึ่งหายากมากในเมืองไทย กว่าจะขึ้นตัวอย่างแต่ละครั้ง และนำไปฟอกให้หด แล้วนำมาวิเคราะห์ว่าแต่ละไซส์พอดีหรือไม่อย่างไร ต้องปรับแค่ไหนเท่าไร แล้วนำไปแก้ใหม่ ขึ้นตัวอย่างใหม่ ใช้เวลาหลายเดือนเลยทีเดียว แต่เมื่อเสร็จแล้ว ก็สามารถใช้ไปได้ตลอดถ้าไม่เปลี่ยนทรงเสียก่อน ส่วนที่ยากที่สุดก็คงเป็นที่วงคอ และวงแขน จะพอดี และเนี๊ยบหรือไม่ ก็อยู่ที่ตรงนี้แหละ ดูด้วยตาเปล่าอาจจะไม่สามารถรู้ได้ ต้องลองใส่เท่านั้นจึงสามารถสัมผัสได้ว่าเสื้อยืดนี้ดีจริง และเป็นเสื้อที่มีคุณค่าน่าใส่
